happening at a home in engel side heights. abc7 news reporter ama dates is live with the latest on this. ama? >> dan, fire officials will confirm one person was found dead in the house. they will not say anything about the victim's identitiment we are are -- identity. we are a block away from the house. you can see what it looked like when we arrived on scene. it broke out about 8:40. about 40 firefighters responded, and they were able to put the fire out in 40 minutes. it burned through the garage and the second floor of the home. one person was found dead inside. now it wasn't the resident or the neighbor who called the fire in. it was an off duty firefighter who smelled smoke. >> firefighters have had good noses. they smelled like some wood was burning somewhere. they let the you are fireman owkn. >> reporter: and most of the damage was contained to that house on the corner. there was some smoke damage to the house next to it. one person has been confirmed dead, and they are finishing up at the scene. the fire officials tell me they will board it up as a crime scene so police an

pull over that car right around 4th and howard and the driver crashed at folsom and essex. the driver was taken into custody. we aren't sure if that driver sustained any injuries. earlier on footage we were able to see the driver being taken away in some kind of neck brace. we aren't sure about the status of that driver at this point in time. but we had unconfirmed reports that that car over there in that corner is actually a rental car so we don't know where the driver is from. we hope to get more information. i think my photographer made a good point, hopefully that driver had insurance. it appears the car is a complete loss with all that water damage. the car was under water for a half hour. that's all we have from here. live in san francisco, cate caugiran, cbs 5. >>> a deadly fire is under investigation in san francisco this morning. one person was killed in the fire in the ingleside heights neighborhood. it started about 8:30 last night on saint charles avenue and the fire was put out in less than 25 minutes and the victim was discovered. >>> deputies are investigating pleasant

and about. look at the 20s from ellicott city 29 degrees. the winds out of the northwest at about 5 miles an hour. this will persist throughout the day. we won't be as windy as we were yesterday. that's some good news especially on that northwesterly breeze. we would really be feeling that windchill today. but that's not going to be the case. maryland's most powerful radar is dry right now. yes we have some cold temperatures but we will get lots of sunshine in here. the only caveat with that is that that sunshine really in the going to warm the temperatures -- not going to warm the temperatures up even as we go into the afternoon. here's how you plan accordingly. at 8:00 the temperature at 33 degrees and still very cold. brisk by lunchtime. yesterday the day before that, the day before that, you were able to eat the lunch outdoors. not so much today. let's get a check now of the abc2 timesaver traffic with lauren cook. good morning. >>> good morning lynette. i'm missing that warm weather. well, we have some trouble in glen burnie right now. there are malfunctioning traffic lights on

that scaffolding i safe. video from earlier shows gushing watertown 40 feet high. water at up to 40 feet. they were trying to pull over a driver for a minor traffic violation, he fled and crashed into a hydrant causing the water break. police took the driver into custody suspected of dui and we don't know at this point if the driver sustained any injuries. back out live, essex street off folsom is blocked. if you are going to the bay bridge, you have to find a different route. a firefighter said that they are going to assess the safety of that scaffolding and once they find out it is safe they will reopen these roads hopefully that can be soon. reporting live in san francisco, cate caugiran, cbs 5. >>> an on-ramp to the bay bridge is closed not making many morning commuters happy. >> no. not at all. if you are trying to access the lower deck of the bay bridge it's blocked off because of the accident. use 1st instead. the good news it's the noncommute direction so hopefully traffic won't be too busy on the lower deck of the bay bridge at the skyway. we are taking a live look at the a

happened. but we want to show you some video that we shot earlier. you can get a look at that gushing water at least 40 feet high is what we're told. and about 1,000 -- tens of thousands of gallons of water that had come out of that break. now, from what we could see, that car knocked the hydrant completely out. we heard reports this started just before 4 a.m. this morning. san francisco police told us officers were trying to pull over this car at 4th and howard for a minor traffic vial violation. the driver fled and hit the hydrant. they took the driver into custody. we are unsure if the driver sustained any injuries. police still on scene. we know that san francisco fire is still on scene. what i was told by one of the firefighters is that they are waiting for a contractor to come and assess the safety of that building because we know that that gushing water caused some structural damage to the scaffolding and they want to make sure everything is safe so until then, they are going to continue to block off essex road here off of folsom. reporting live in san francisco, cate c
